These past few weeks, I have been learning contentment and how to put it into practice. Learning to be content with this phase of my life, what I’m blessed with, and the process of this journey. I’m always striving to live for the Kingdom and not culture. And I realized the problem was always wanting more and unknowingly not being satisfied with what I’ve been given. What opened my eyes was a post on Instagram, which is below.
I had been struggling, for months, with an unbalance of being content with now and hoping for the future. I was wanting too much for the greater things that it drowned the gratitude of what God has blessed me with currently. Treating what I had as little and thinking more would solve my problems.
Once I sat back and examined that I was searching for material things and money rather than my dependence on God, who is my provision, I knew I had to correct it. Keeping in mind, from the post, I will never reach my destiny if I do not change my perspective. My reflection allowed me to see that God has never let me lack in anything and He constantly is providing for me. And that alone made me smile and know that i am okay.
With any situation or feeling, we need to replace it with the word of God. So I want to share with you scriptures that helps when the feeling of discontent kicks in. Remember to keep them in your heart, write them down, and meditate on them.
John 14:27 “ peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” – We can have peace because we know that, with God, we are sufficient. Remember that peace surpasses ALL understanding (Philippians 4:6). When you feel that your faith is shaken by your circumstances, speak peace over you.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” – Do not let your faith be shaken because if you stay close and connected to God, you do not have to fear. You can trust that He will always provide.
Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – God will not abandon us when the wind shifts and disappointment comes. Remember that you are living out whatever is already done in heaven so it’s your job to believe and the rest is in God’s hand.
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” – This is a big one to keep! These days everybody thinks money will solve problems and fill your happiness. It may distract you for a second but will not fill what only God can supply. Why look to money? When God has everything in his hands.
Mark 4:19 “but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” – don’t let the interest in materials and cares of the world distract you from God’s word. Also, don’t let your worries lead to “why it can’t happen.” Believe and trust God
Proverbs 11:28 “Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.” – Trusting in money and items will lead to drought but with God you’ll never run out.
Therefore, a habit that will help acknowledge and remind us to be faithful in our little is doing daily gratitude. A list of 3 or more things.
Example:
- Food
- Water
- A place to lay my head
- Lights
- Family
- Smiles
Oh! Before you go, a big helpful tool was the Bible study lesson that I will link below. For 5 days, it helped me learn why I was discontent and how I could change that. I highly recommend you take time to work on this study guide.
May God bless you.
