As much as I sound like a broken record… you and I really must run our own race. We can’t look around. I REPEAT we can’t look around!
Do you remember when I was talking about turning 25 and 26? Feeling behind?
Those feelings still pop up but what helps me, is knowing that we all have a story with different timelines. And my story is uniquely designed based on the assignment(s) predestined beforehand (Ephesians 2:10). As goes for you too. With that being said, yes, I don’t have the typical lifestyle most 20 somethings have (by society) but that’s because my journey isn’t the traditional route. And I am learning, really as I am typing, maybe there is purpose in that.
For example, these past 5 years I believe were appointed, and set aside, by God specifically for Him to move in me. Deconstruct, birth, reconstruct, etc. Resulting in some things looking a little different or taking longer; however, I know, if I am in God’s will then it’s all going according to plan. Although in my early twenties, I didn’t think that way. My little brain thought “Rome” would be built overnight by going from point A to B and nothing in between. But I know now, some seasons are preparations, redirection, cultivating, launching, or harvest. And sometimes it looks like nothing, but even in the “nothing” God is doing something.
Therefore, we can’t spend all our time looking at the next person; coveting their life/belongings nor try to understand why I didn’t get that same chance or why it didn’t happen that way for me. Note this: we’re not all afforded the same opportunities because we’re not all dealt the same cards. We’re not all called to do the exact same thing. And we’re not all on the same mission. We must spend time LIVING our own life, focused on what God gives to us, and why. Because remember “what glitters is not always gold.”
And speaking of not being afforded the same opportunities. Yes, life is not always fair. It’s hard. Bittersweet and 80% of the time you may want to quit. But don’t give up. Gods’ ways are not our ways. Trust and stay obedient. Plus if its in God’s will the way is already provided for.
And I think getting off social media helps us not get so distracted with all the extra noise.
(I am really talking to myself, but I think we both need to hear this.)

Key takeaways
- It’s a human emotion, when you see someone else win and get to do something you also desire, it’s normal to have the feeling of like dang. Just don’t let yourself get to that point of “covet.” But if you do. Identify and take it to God. The antidote to covet = contentment. Shift your focus on gratitude in your life.
- focus on eternal value: storing treasures in heaven rather than earthly possession
- I believe distraction is one of the enemies’ tactics that causes you to miss God. Or speak against the very thing God wants to build in your life. If he (satan) keeps you looking at everything and everyone else, you’ll resent your own life and never become what God destined you to be. DON’T LET HIM WIN! – don’t be fooled by what you see
- Ask yourself what are you building this for? why do you want something?
- GET OFF THAT PHONE AND LIVE.
