Why Fashion Trends are not the Greatest -trends vs timeless

Disclaimer! I have nothing against fashion trends! This is totally my opinion but I do wish more people would look into timeless fashion. Over the years, I can’t tell you how much of my moms and I money was spent trying to keep up with the trends!  And I will not continue doing that. Of course there are some items that I do see in trends that I will add to my wardrobe. JUST NOT EVERYTHING!

Now let’s get into why.

I have noticed people change their mind so much; something can be in one day and out the next. And I feel like soon as you find out about this certain item or style and purchase it it’s already “outdated.” Lately this happens frequently on TikTok, people literally are rushing to buy something to keep up with the crowd. I feel like these actions lead to everybody looking like each other and no one has their own mind or style anymore. We’re walking replicas because we spend so much time trying to fit in that we don’t even know how to make decisions for ourselves. That was me too, I wouldn’t even know how to shop or pick out items because I stopped using my creativity to guide me. I had to always look for inspo for everything, and it got so frustrating that I didn’t even like shopping in stores. It was a waste of time.

I feel like a lot of it comes back to not having self awareness. Being on social media and wanting what the “influencers” have. And we have to be wise before making a purchase on something we see. Do you really like it? Or is it just because your inspiration has it? Can you wear this multiple times? Is it versatile? Is it worth the money? These are important factors to think about because some influencers might just act like they love it for a check. And we’re breaking our necks and wasting money trying to buy it when they are gifted or paid. Especially on Tiktok, I see a lot of people creating these outfits or showing a product but is it worn or used on a daily basis and not just to be shown for a video or picture.

I think another reason why I’m not into trends any more is because of social media. It’s so easy to see everything. And when something goes viral everybody gets the item, and then that’s all you see for weeks. That leads to people getting tired of something so quick, well at least for me.

Why timeless makes sense.

The number one reason to lean towards timeless is because you can create your own style! When I became more open minded to life, I started to embrace people’s creativity through their outfits. I admire people’s uniqueness and I feel like you can understand a person without them having to speak. And also it creates diversity in the earth and that’s important. Therefore, I’m learning what my style is. That leads to being able to put an outfit together without having to go to or copy inspiration every time. I don’t mean completely take away your inspo but try to create or pick what you love first. And wear what makes you happy.

You can be trendy and cute without having the latest item that everyone else has. Emma Chamberlain is a good example because she literally puts on stuff that most people wouldn’t wear but it makes her stand out from the crowd and shows her personality. Also have to point out, she makes it look so fire!!! And most of her stuff is thrifted! That goes to show confidence is the key!

Another reason is to build my wardrobe with pieces that will last me a long time and that will be used multiple times. This is smart and responsible rather than wanting to create a new wardrobe just because items aren’t the trends no more.
I think also, we have to be grateful and steward what we have because there are less fortunate people in this world. And if you want to get rid of things, think about donating or find someone to bless.

Lastly, I am heavy on creating on your own wave. It starts with having your own mind. Don’t label yourself to one thing. Be open to trying new things. And be authentic to you.
